Abstract

Pervasive Developmental Disorders(PDD)is a general term that includes Autistic Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, High Functioning Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and unspecified PDD. Among PDDs, those without Intellectual disabilities are called High Functioning Pervasive Developmental Disorder(HFPDD, generally Hight Functioning PDD). It is a type of Neurodevelopmental disorder that is thought to be caused by microlesion abnormality in an innate brain disfunction. It has characteristics such as deterioration of sociality due to impaired communication ability and difficulty in social adaptation due to its own commitment. Although there are many books about Developmental disabilities themselves and how to interact with children with developmental disabilities, most of them only explain unique behavioral characteristic such as the aggressiveness of children with Developmental disabilities. On the other hand, as things stand, little is still known that children with Developmental disabilities themselves have a lot of physiological difficulties as a background to have to take such actions. It is said not clear why Developmental disabilities develop. Many of children receive drug therapy or psychological treatment, which must be said to be aimed at only alleviating behavior in question. The condition in which the autonomic nerves do not function properly is physically and mentally painful, and it often prevent them from performing daily activities. In this study, we focus on physiological difficulties that children with Developmental disabilities have and aim to reduce and alleviate secondary symptoms caused by stress, tension, physical stiffness, etc. caused by those difficulties. Aromatherapy treatments were performed for a client with High Functioning PDD, 8 times in total, with 1 course every 7 days, and changes in QOL were observed using the KK scale method.
