Abstract

Knee joint supports almost entire body weight, has a wide range of motion, and is a part of the body that is prone to injury. The main disease is osteoarthritis of the knee, where cartilage wear, bone spurs, and pain due to aging. Other conditions include meniscal injuries, tendon and ligament injuries, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and collagen diseases. According to the announcement by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, it is estimated that about 10 million people have subjective symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee, which is a major cause of knee pain in the elderly, and about 30 million are potential patients (based on X-ray diagnoses). This indicates that a significant number of people suffer from knee pain. The subject of this study had not visited a medical institution at the start of the study and had not been diagnosed with any specific disease, but was suffering from knee pain. In this study, subjects with knee pain were given 8 courses of aromatherapy treatment once every 7 days, and changes in the subject's QOL were observed and examined the KK scale method.
