Evaluation of treatment effects on subjects with Parkinson’s disease using the KKscale

Abstract

76-year-old woman with Parkinson's disease received aromatherapy treatment 10 times, once every 7 days. Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder classified as a "neurodegenerative disease." It develops when nerve cells in the substantia nigra of the brain decrease, causing a decrease in dopamine. The cause of the changes in the substantia nigra is currently unknown, and it has been designated as an intractable disease. In many cases, the disease develops in middle-aged or older people, and in Japan, the proportion of women is slightly higher. In this paper, the KK scale method was used to observe changes in QOL from a holistic perspective. The subjects suffered from symptoms specific to Parkinson's disease, such as hand tremors and difficulty walking. As a result, symptoms such as hand tremors, weakness in the hands, numbness in the soles of the feet, and difficulty walking showed a tendency to improve. It was suggested that aromatherapy treatment made daily activities easier and improved QOL.
