Sergestes gardineri KEMP in the collections of the Tokai Regional Fisheries Research Laboratory in Tokyo and of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden is studied. This species is recorded for the first time in the Japan Trench and the Central Pacific Ocean.
