Fault Tolerant Computer : General Description

Abstract

For the construction of highly reliable computer systems, fault tolerant computers are utilised in many fields. This paper describes design methods, system configuration, etc. for general purpose fault tolerant computers from the developers' point of view. Recently duplex systems configured with general purpose main-frames or UNIX servers are utilised for the highly reliable computer systems. Compareing such product and fault tolerant computer, the paper characterizes functions of fault tolerant computer. From some examples of practical highly reliable systems' operation, this paper analizes the trouble trend and picks up the issues.
