Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze danger in children’s play at childcare facilities and propose new definitions of hazard and risk to appropriately indicate the danger. A detailed review of previous research on child safety revealed confusion over the concepts of hazard and risk. There are two different concepts of danger in children’s play—one views that danger can be valuable, while the other presupposes that any possible danger should be eliminated. To resolve this confusion, herein I proposed new definitions of hazard and risk; “hazard” includes all possible incidents involving children and “risk” includes both positive and negative effects on children.
