Abstract
This study aims to identify duties and work-related feelings of childcare teachers at a residential medical facility for children with disabilities where children receive special supports different from those at conventional childcare centers. Interview survey was administered to the teachers. Their primary duty was the assistance of nursing services. Regarding work-related feelings, teachers frequently felt enjoyment and satisfaction from direct contact with children. By contrast, they felt difficulty and hardship mainly due to a lack of experience and ability, a lack of understanding of the role of a childcare teacher, and emotional conflicts in performing childcare duties. These difficulties are attributed to the severity of the children’s disability, a large amount of medical care for children, and the fact that they are in a place where many different professions work together.
