Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the acquisition of fundamental movement skills in early childhood across three generations (2019: survey data, 1985 & 2007: existing data). In 2019, a survey was administered to 100 three-to-five year-olds kindergarten children, focusing on the following fundamental movement skills: running, jumping, forward rolling, balancing on a beam, and ball throwing, catching, and bouncing. The acquisition of these skills was evaluated using movement scores and movement development scores. A one-sample t-test comparing the 2019 data with the 2007 data indicated that the acquisition of fundamental movement skills improved in 2019. And intergenerational comparisons were examined based on changes in the average for each grade in each generation. This improvement can be attributed to various interventions promoting physical activity in early childhood that have been in place for over a decade since 2007. However, the level of skill acquisition in 2019 was still lower compared to that in 1985.
