Abstract

With growing interest in urban gardening, various private companies are entering the field. This report examines the potential and challenges of community gardens with private sector participation through the case study of Kronos Farm in a vacant field and Kazusa Sarashina Park, Ichihara, Chiba, operated by Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. Kronos Farm operates on a membership model supported by field coordinators and offers structured activities that cater to beginners and emphasize community connections and education. Surveys showed positive perceptions of park-based farming, particularly among participants, who valued their educational and recreational benefits. The initiative primarily attracts families with children and provides opportunities for personal growth and community engagement. Challenges include establishing sustainable pricing models and fostering harmonious community dynamics.
