Construction of Network-boot Computer System for Education with Diskless Terminals

Abstract

The update of the educational computer system in Sendai National College of Technology was executed in March, 2007. The new system adopted the network boot method with a diskless terminal not equipped with any hard disk drive aiming at the efficiency improvement of management. As a result, the management of the software of each terminal become unnecessary, and the troubles of the terminals are expected to decrease. The boot-time of the terminal from power on to the login screen had been measured. It was able to be confirmed that all terminals were booted within about 150 seconds when 46 terminals were booted together.
