Abstract
Measurement of muscle strength has habitually been applied to evaluating physical strength of patients by physical therapists, and it has several problems which remain to be solved. This report first dealt with the classification of muscle strength, introducing several reports by other investigators as well as mine, and then described the purpose, kinds, methods, and problems of the measurement and causes for muscule weakness. In the final part, the author pointed out problems of the measurement, partly mentioning solutions to them. It can be said that the solution is indispensable todiscussing the reliability of physical therapy from the scientific viewpoint, and it will therefore require further investigation and exchange of opinions. Criticism and comments on this report will be highly welcomed.
