Abstract
A 42-year old woman visited our hospital with a complaint of abdominal tumor. Gynecological primary tumor occupying the entire hypogastric region with right hydronephrosis was suspected from a G. I. series, angiography and CT. Laparotomy was performed, revealing a giant myoma of the uterus. The surface was smooth, and non-adherent to surrounding tissues. The tumor measured 28×24×13 cm and weighed 6020 g. The postoperative course was good and the patient was discharged on the 9th day. As she felt pain in the right femoral region on the 11th day, she was readmitted to our hospital on the 21st day. Under a diagnosis of postoperativel deep vein thrombosis, thrombectomy was performed. The patient fully recuperated and was discharged on the 13th day.
Recently, giant myoma of the uterus has been rarely reported in Japan, only 6 cases having been described during the last 10 years. This case was complicated by hydronephrosis, and postoperatively by deep vein thrombosis. Since deep vein thrombosis is a complication that can be prevented, suitable precautions are advocated.
