Abstract
A case of duodenal leiomyoma simultaneously associated with carcinoma of the common bile duct is reported. A 69-year-old man complaing of right hypocondlargia was admitted under a diagnosis of cholecystitis in October 1989. Endoscopic examination was performed because the patient developed jaundice in November. It showed an erosive lesion in the Papilla of Vater and a protruded lesion with smooth surface in the duodenal mucosa in the duodenal second portion. Histological examination of the biopsy specimens revealed adenocarcinoma. In February 1990 pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. The removed specimens showed a submucosal tumor (2.5×2.0×2.0 cm in size) in the second potion of the duodenum and tumorous erosion and obstruction of the Papilla of Vater. Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis as adenocarcinoma of the common bile duct and leiomyoma of the duodenum. There has been no recurrence up to now, one year after the operation. Such a case of duodenal leiomyoma simultaneously associated with common bile duct carcinoma has been seen only once in the literature.
