Abstract
A case of primary duodenal carcinoma which metastasized to the left pectoralis major muscle is reported with some consideration of the literature. A 60-year-old man was pointed out having a duodenal tumor at a nearby hospital, and was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaints of epigastralgia, abdominal distension and body weight loss. On admission, a hard and mobile spherical tumor with a diameter of 2 cm was observed at the left breast. The tumor partially attached to the pectoralis major muscle, and its surface was smooth. He was diagnosed as having a duodenal carcinoma and a tumor of the pectoralis major muscle, so pancreatoduodenectomy and excision of the tumor were performed. The primary tumor of the duodenum was histologically a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, and showed pancreatic invasion with metastases to the left pectoralis major muscle and to the lymphnodes of No.12, No.13 and jejunal mesentery. This case is very rare in that the primary duodenal carcinoma distantly metastasized to the pectoralis major muscle.
