Abstract
This paper describes a case of early rectal cancer (type IIa + IIc, m) which is diagnosed unequivocally by the intrarectal echography. A 78-year-old woman was seen at the hospital because of bloody stool lasting about 6 months. Digital examination, barium enema, and colonoscopy revealed a 2/5-circumference torus lesion of type IIa + IIc locating at 5 cm from the anal verge. This cancer was diagnosed as invading only the mucosal layer, because low echogenic tumor was in the 1st layer and the 2nd layer was intact on the intrarectal echography. Low anterior resection expressed the cancer was localized only in the mucosal layer.
