Abstract
A case of perforative peritonitis due to a relatively rare multiple diverticula of the small intestine is reported.
A 51-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of severe upper abdominal pain and vomiting. There was tenderness in the whole abdomen and the upper abdomen was board-like. Emergency operation was performed. On laparotomy the small intestine by 3 m starting from 2 m distant from the Treitz ligament were found to have multiple diverticula, perforation of diverticula each other being located at 3 m and 50 cm from the Treitz ligament. The small intestine including diverticula was resected by about 3 m in length, followed by intestinal anastomosis. Some discussions on diverticulosis of the small intestine reported in the Japanese literature are also presented.
