Abstract
Cumulated cases of methicilin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection treated at the department from April 1989 to March 1990 were studies. In the same period, 110 cases were operated on for cardiac great vessels, and MRSA was detected postoperatively in 11 of the 110 cases, which included 7 with clinical symptoms. All 4 patients who involved in infection toward transplanted prosthesis died. These cases were allocated to two groups, namely, an infectious group comprising of cases of symptomatic MRSA infection, and a non-infectious group comprising of others including asymptomatic infection, and compared for CI, BUN, CRNN, T-BIL and duration of intratracheal intubation. Significantly lower value in CI, higher values in BUN, CRNN and T-BIL, and longer value in intubation duration in the infectious group was noted. These findings indicate that postoperative patients whose heart, kidney, liver and lung function were impared can be complicated by MRSA infection. accordingly, in the postoperative patients recieved cardio-aortic surgery using transplanted prosthesis and in poor general condition, special attention should be given to MRSA infection. We should make more efforts to prevent MRSA infection and to make an early diagnosis.
