Abstract
There is an increasing tendency in the occurrence of traumatic diaphragmatic injury with a recent increase in traffic accidents or labor accidents. In this paper two cases of traumatic injury in the left-side diaphragma due to a traffic accident are described. Both 2 cases were admitted to the department of orthopedics because of fracture and were under strict observation for their lack of abnormal thoracic and abdominal findings. Case 1 and 2 were diagnosed as traumatic diaphragmatic rupture on the 8th and 12th day after admission respectively, and were operated on. Case 1 has a good postoperative recovery, but case 2 had an eventful course because of pneumonia and athelectasis. Determination of thoracic injury immediately after some accidents can be difficult. Especially in the early diagnosis of traumatic diaphragmatic rupture in a case without remarkable clinical manifestation, it would be important to entertain a possible occurrence of this disease, to observe closely and to evaluate plain chest X-ray films carefully.
