Abstract
A case of double primary malignant neoplasm of renal cell carcinoma and gastric cancer which could be treated by temporary radical operation is reported and discussed. A 70-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of nausea. Upper gastrointestinal series and gastric endoscopy revealed a gastric cancer. On the other hand, a right renal cell carcinoma was diagnosed on enhanced CT scan by chance. Under a diagnosis of double cancer, renal cell carcinoma and gastric cancer, subtotal gastrectomy and right nephrectomy were performed.
To our knowledge, there are 7 such cases, including this case, in the Japanese literature, and 5 of them underwent temporary radical operation. Recent remarkable prolongation in life temporary radical operation. Recent remarkable prolongation in life span and progression of medical technology would increase case reports of double primary cancer, but it is not uncommon to have difficultise in diagnosing it preoperatively. This case was also reviewed in terms of this fact.
