Abstract
A 63-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of left hypocondralgia. Gastrointestinal series, gastrofiberscopy and abdominal CT scan revealed a giant tumor in the stomach extending from the gastric wall to adjacent organs. Based on the diagnosis of huge leimyosarcoma, we performed transcatheter arterial embolization of the feeding arteries preoperatively. The feeding arteries included the left gastric, left inferior phrenic, splenic, posterior gastric, short gastric and left gastroepiploic arteries. On the following day, total gastrectomy with splenectomy was carried out. Blood loss was much less than expected because of arterial embolization. He had no postoperative complications and, to date, no evidence of recurrence has been found for 31 months.
