Abstract
Two males and one female of the Japanese mitten crab, Eriocheir japonica (de Haan), were captured in the park’s pond on Rishiri Island. This artificial pond is located about 600 meters from the sea and is connected to the sea via a culvert with fire tanks, and an inoperable facility for wastewater treatment. Although this is the first record of freshwater crabs from this island, further investigation is needed to clarify these crab’s origin.
