Abstract

The backwater zone (wando-pool) of river is important role for providing habitat of animal and plant community. This experimental study examines the relationship between fish community and the shape of the artificial backwater zone (wando-pool). The study site is has three types (open, half-closed, closed) and sixteen of artificial wando-pools by bed excavation on the tidal zone at the Maruyama river. These three types are different from connectivity with main river and shape of cross section. We surveyed fish fauna four times and plant flora with vegetation cover in the study site second times. The number of fish and plant species is the highest in half-open type. This results represents half-closed type is better for species diversity and half-closed type and closed type of artificial wand-pool provide reproduction of fish and habitat for young fry fish by submerged plants.
