Abstract

The paper proposes a synthetic river hydraulics and sediment observation system which assures the mutual coincident relation of data among water level hydrographs, discharge hydrographs, sediment discharge hydrographs and bed levels. The unsteady two dimensional flow equation and river bed variation analysis are conducted so as to satisfy measured water surface profiles over time.

This system supplies data for river planning and maintenance and proves the usefulness for river administration although sediment discharge has not been measured yet. The author emphasizes the importance of sediment discharge measurements for the synthetic observation system installed at important positions of river system and recommends to adopt this method to the comprehensive sediment management plan in rivers.
