Abstract

Recently it is recognized that subsurface water zone under river sandbars has functions to be a habitat for benthos and microorganism living in substrate, which remove materials from the water or change physicochemical characteristics. In this study, the relationship between the subsurface water flow and those physicochemical characteristics is investigated by field observation monitoring the daily change and seasonal changes. The results show that physicochemical characteristics is determined by not only subsurface water flow speed but also vertical infiltration of surface water under floods.
