Abstract

The cooperative study between ecology and river hydraulics on eco-system in the Kizu-river started in 1998, supported by the ministry of land, infrastructure and transport. The characteristics of the Kizu-river is a typical sandy river with alternate bars which experiences sediment movement to change the morphology frequently.

The research cooperation has started based on a common concept of "habitat" and it has developed to an advanced concept as habitat with food web. Under such concepts, river engineers, hydrologists, biologists and ecologists set their research field on the same target bar. The respective researchers are experts of the specific topics, but they attempt to interrelate them one another by the concepts "habitat" and "food web" through common experiences in the same field and continuous discussions.
