Abstract
In Japan, where disasters occur frequently, there is a need to hasten the development of teaching mate-
rials for disaster prevention education for children to acquire the ability to protect their own lives and save the lives of others. This research is on the development of teaching materials of disaster prevention educa- tion with the assumption of the Nankai Trough earthquake. The developed teaching material is a simulation game with the idea of active learning of “tsunami is coming”, for evacuation during the Nankai Trough earthquake. After the game, workshops are held to deepen the study. This teaching material includes el- ements that enhance “knowledge/skills”, “thinking ability/judgment/expressiveness”, and “initiative” – education encouraged by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This can be proved by the results of the questionnaires answered by the students after the trial. In addition, the students took interest and enjoyed the learning process, proving the effectiveness of the teaching material.
