Abstract

Women farmers consist of fifty percent of the agricultural population in Japan and play an important role for sustainable development of agriculture. This paper aims to provide the overviews of the extension services of living improvement in the postwar period and the development of the policy packages for women farmers. The paper also refers to the recent policy developments of such as “Nogyojoshi Project” and the future course of policy measures to encourage the active participation of women.
