Multicomponent ultrafine particles are very promising to fabricate advanced and fine materials. In the present study the preparation method of multicomponent ultrafine particles containing Y and Ce was investigated. The stock solutions were prepared with YCl3, Ce (NO3)3, EDTA, urea and distilled water. The particles were precipitated from the solutions using the homogeneous precipitation method. The generator of the precipitants was urea. It was a characteristic point that EDTA was used for a condition modifying reagent. The reaction temperature and the reaction time were 97°C and 120 min, respectively. Y/Ce ratios in the precipitates was considerably different from the ratios in the original solutions. These phenomena may be attributed to the difference in the stability between Y-EDTA and Ce-EDTA. The ultrafine particles containing Y and Ce equivalently were precipitated from the solution in which Y/Ce was three. Those multicomponent ultrafine particles were almost spherical. The average particle size was 57 nm and the particle size distribution was apreciably narrow.
