Recently, the rare metals are commonly used for electronic equipments and in various industrial fields. For examples, the products that used nickel increase, compared with those that used silver and palladium etc. This in turn increased the amount of nickel in the electronics waste from the electronic making company and municipal solid waste. Therefore, it is important to recover them, considering the resources and recycling. However, it is difficult to recycle the nickel from waste as the recycling technique is not available.
In this study, recovery of nickel particles from wasted electronics parts was investigated by means of flotation as a function of pH, sulfurization and grinding time. Additionally, the contact angle of nickel plate and the zeta potential were measured.
From experimental results, it was found that the recovery of sulfurized nickel particles effectively increased at lower pH region. Especially, the recovery of 85.3% and the grade of 33.2% of nickel from wasted electronic parts were achieved by floatation with sulfurized process, potassium n-amylxanthate and MIBC (Methyl Iso Butyl Carbinol) at pH 2.0. Moreover, according to the series of these experiment, it is suggested the flow sheet for recovering of nickel particles from wasted electronic parts. This in turn will decrease the amount of waste to more than 60%.
