Limit analysis (upper bound) has been applied for bearing capacity of strip footing on c-ψ soils exhibiting anisotropy and nonhomogeneity in cohesion. The failure mechanism assumed is similar to Prandtl-Terzaghi type, but with varying boundary wedge angles. The results are presented in the form of charts in nondimensional form for the various parameters considered, viz., angle of internal friction, depth to width ratio of foundation, degree of nonhomogeneity, coefficient of anisotropy and unit weight of soil. The results are compared with those of other methods. The study reveals that anisotropy and nonhomogeneity have considerable influence on the bearing capacity.
