Overconsolidated clays are very often encountered in Geotechnical Engineering practice. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on two remoulded clays in (CIU)^^- compression tests varying both maximum past consolidation pressure and the overconsolidation ratio (OCR). A new empirical procedure to predict the undrained compression strength of a specimen at any overconsolidation ratio knowing its strength in the normally consolidated state has been presented. The new procedure treats the relationship between the undrained strength ratio, (σ1-σ3)OC/(σ1-σ3)NC and the overconsolidation ratio could be represented as a rectangular hyperbola to predict the undrained strength of an overconsolidated specimen at any OCR knowing its normally consolidated strength at the given maximum past consolidation pressure. Predicted values of strength are compared with those experimentally determined.
