A Case of Huge Leiomyoma of the Uterus

Abstract

A 44 years old woman, nullipara, was hospitalized because of an enomous swelling of the abdomen and difficulty of walking, and took the abdominal surgery due to the abdominal tumor of great size.
Before operation, a diagnosis of ovarian cyst was given. During the operation, a huge neoplasma originating from the uterus was observed. The operation had been performed to remove 32.0 kg uterine myoma with safty of the patient.
By an histological examination, the neoplasma was diagnosed as a leiomyoma. The tumor cells, as the result of secondary changes, showed myxomatous degeneration, cystic degeneration and necrosis associated with local hemorrhagic appearance.
The myoma is the biggest uterine myoma hitherto reported in Japan. Over one year after operation, the patient is in perfect health
