Twenty eight patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding were treated with the synthetic steroid, danazol. In 6 patients uterine bleeding stopped within one week. Endometrial biopsy revealed that the hyperplastic endometrium became inactive after treatment with danazol ; i. e., small inactive glands and dense inactive stroma were seen. Cytological examination showed that atypical endometrial cells became normal. The maturation index of the vaginal cells changed so that the intermediate cell type became dominant after treatment with danazol. No remarkable change was found in the serum E2 levels after treatment. Peripheral red blood cells and platelets were increased after treatment.
