We report a case of malignant melanoma of the vagina and present the colposcopic, cytological, histological and metastatic findings. In our case, serum tumor marker for malignant melanoma, 5-S-CD (5-S-Cysteinyldopa) was elevated to an abnormally high level only after systemic metastases were detected. Malignant melanomas have been reported to show either amelanotic or melanotic condition through the clinical or therapeutic course, and our case showed both amelanotic and melanotic features during the clinical course. Malignant melanomas have been known to metastasize frequently to neighboring skin or lymph nodes, but direct invasion, lymphatic and vascular metastases also occur. Recurrent tumors of our case showed liver metastases, subcutaneous tumor in the trunk, lung metastasis and intrapelvic mass. [Adv Obstet Gynecol 46 (1); 6-13, 1993 (H6.1)]
