Abstract
Two-dimentional crossing paper electrophoreses of sera from patients were carried out against Protein J of Jack Bean, and the changes in the “crossing diagrams” obtained were studied.
1) Crossing diagrams obtained from 5 patients presented here showed an unusual fourth peak, besides the usual three which correspond to α1-, α2- and β-globulin fractions.
2) In two cases of multiple myeloma, a fourth peak were observed in crossing diagrams corresponding to myeloma protein.
3) In one case of gastric ulcer with gastric fibroma, a very low fourth peak was observed in crossing diagram corresponding to an abnormal protein fraction located between the β- and γ-globulins.
4) In each one case of leucosarcoma and advanced portal liver cirrhosis, a fouth peak was observed in crossing diagram between the β- and γ-globulin fractions, although in electrophoretic protein patterns of those sera unusuol protein fractions were not demontrated.
5) Specific correlation between the appearance of the fourth peak in crossing diagram and the diseases was not observed.
