ポリオキシエチレンソルビトールテトラオレエートの乳化剤としての性質

Some emulsifying properties of polyoxyethylene sorbitol tetra oleate were investigated. This compound has multi-chain structure in a molecule and relatively large molecular weight. It is expected that this type of surfactant has specific properties which have never been observed in other ordinary surfactants.
Polyoxyethylene sorbitol tetra oleate was synthesized by addition of ethylene oxide to sorbitol, and then it was esterified with oleic acid.
The phase inversion temperature, the stability and the size-distribution of the emulsion were determined in order to investigate the emulsifying activities of this surfactant.
The result indicates that this surfactant has an effective performance as emulsifier at even low concentration and the emulsion is stable for coalescence. And also indicates excellent emulsifying activities to relatively high polar oils such as synthetic ester, vegitable oil and higher alcohol and the size-distributions of these emulsions are extremely sharp.
This paper describes the effective properties of polyoxyethylene sorbitol tetra oleate as emulsifier.
