French Spiritualism is a trend of thought which flowed through the realm of ideas in France from the beginning of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. This trend developed an idea similar to that of Schelling's on the relation between freedom and nature. The theme which they investigated in common could be grasped as nature in self-awareness. The nature in self-awareness is not the nature which we see as object in front of us, but the nature which emerges from our depth as emotion and imagination and forms our inner world. This nature undelies morality and religion. While Felix Ravaisson investigated the mystery of this nature by means of HABIT, Schelling tried to make it clear through ART.
