Abstract

 5S principle (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) and visualized management are important for corporate management. These would improve quality, delivery time and cost.

Moreover, these lead also to human resources development, and their advantages are large.

This paper introduces 5S principle and visualized management with company cases. I would like to propose the diagnostic technique of 5S as a tool which diagnoses 5S.

This technique can be diagnosed according to 5S level of a company. The levels of 5S diagnosis are a basal level, a middle level, and three high-level steps. 5S diagnosis is measured by the evaluation point. Trends and challenges can be known. If 5S diagnosis is continued periodically, the true ability of its company can be known. Moreover, if 5S activity is carried out aiming at high level, the management contribution of the QCD can be improved.
