In this article, the author draws on her own experience to suggest effective methods of blending the humanities and science. After earning a doctoral degree in history and working in the professional world, the author took a position at IIS. Drawing on that experience and adding the perspective of a working professional, the author discusses three problems with current approaches to humanities/science fusion: the lack of producers; the lack of routine; and the lack of a field for developing priorities. The article also analyzes factors that contributed to the University of Tokyo EMP program’s successful implementation of cross-disciplinary methodology.
