Dictation of Connected Speech in English Utterances:

Relationship With Listening/Speaking Skills, and Factors That Hinder Dictation

Abstract

The results of a dictation test on 208 EFL learners were analyzed to investigate their ability to recognize connected speech. Statistical analyses showed that the correct dictation rate for artificially un-connected speech was higher than that of naturally processed speech. The results are discussed in relation to their listening and speaking test scores, and factors that hinder their dictation of connected speech.
