Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify the influence of sibship size, gender of sib and birth order on interests of fashion. Subjects were 1062 children of primary schoolchildren and junior high school students. Analysis was done on each of them. Various aspects of fashion were influenced by sibship. Especially, an only child was interested in fashion very much. As a whole,the only child and the girl with a sister tend to be in the interest of fashion, while the child with a brother tends not to be in the interest so much of fashion. Furthermore, about sisters, in both primary schoolchildren and junior high students, gender of sib influenced on interest of fashion, and about primary schoolchildren, the desire of information of fashion was influenced by gender of sib, about junior high students, their concrete behavior about fashion-reading fashion magazines and taking the information of fashion in their real clothes-were influenced by birth order. The girl with an elder sister tends to have a positive action more than the girl with a younger sister. On both elder and younger, the girl with a brother tends to have a strong interest in fashion, while the boy with a brother tends not to have interest in fashion.
