Image Words Extraction and Classification of Garment Designs for 3-dimensional Simulation for Young Women's Design Selection Support

Abstract
The garment selection support information in the 3-dimensional (3D) fashion factory boutique system was extracted for young women as consumers. The 234 words describing the design images of the garments were collected from a variety of recent fashion magazines and were classified based on a questionnaire. The selected ten key words for design images were: 1, marine style; 2. ethnic style; 3. retro style; 4. casual style; 5. school uniform style; 6. boyish style; 7. hard style; 8. girlish style; 9. simple style; and 10. adult style.
Using these ten image words, we classified the design images of 60 garments and clarified the design elements of each group's garment from the evaluations system of classifying images into five grades. We extracted four components of the images of these garment designs and through detailed clustering, they were classified into eight images. The features of the design elements were roughly grouped into three clusters. The adult style image (including: the images of 7, 9, and 10) has an unpatterned top and bottom and a tight-fitting bottom. The girlish style image (including: the images of 1, 2, and 3&8) has thin and soft material for the top and bottom and chromatic color with a pattern design for the top and/or the bottom. The casual style image (including: the images of 5 and 4&6) has an unpatterned top and a slightly stiff, thick, simple, and dark material for the bottom.
3D simulations of typical garments for each image were performed and the image models for support of design selection were constructed.
