Abstract

In the present snow-removal and storage system, the snow is removed from an urban area through street-side snow feeders and underground piping system and stored in an artificial pond built in the suburban area. The pond is insulated to store the negative heat until summer when the mixture of cold water and snow is used for air conditioning in the urban area. The study exemplifies Nagaoka City which is noted for heavy snowfall and gives a designed system with snow removal capacity of 5, 000 t/h from the urban area of 16 km2. The designed system includes 5, 500 snow feeders, snow conveying system and storage pond.
