Abstract
Field experiment on the thermal response test with ground water flow was conducted with a large-scale tank, which can imitate the ground water flow through the sand filled layer. The results demonstrated gradients of the ground temperature in the thermal response test with ground water flow are influenced by the range of the elapsed time. From the comparison between temperatures of measurement and calculations which apply the moving line source theory and the finite differential method respectively, it was indicated that the free convection is generated in the sand layer since the calculated temperature variations were larger than the measured ones. Thus the authors investigated the mixed convection.
