Two Cottrell electrical precipitators were installed and put into operation at Kamaishi Iron & Steel Works of the Kamaishi Mining Company, last year. The one, usually called as the “Primary Cottrell” has a capacity to treat the whole gases liberated from two blast-furnaces whose maximum output of pig runs about 750 tons per 24 hours, aiming to get the gases suiting for hot-stove and boiler firing, the aimed dust content of the cleaned gas being less than 0.1 to 0.2 gms. per cbm.; the other, called the “Secondary Cottrell, ” has a capacity to treat the amount of gases used for two 2, 820 H. P. Demag gas-engineblowers, under fully-loaded condition, eliminating minute dust, still remained in the primary-cleaned gases, the aimed cleanliness, i. e. dust content, of the secondary-cleaned gases being less than 0.02 gms. per cbm.
Both of them have fulfilled their proper services and continue operation very satisfactorily, the outcomes of the actual operation being much better than our expectation, obtaining unexpected biproduct of potash from the primary Cottrell and saving large amount of the boiler fuels. The scales of the whole plant, constructional features and prompt points of the precipitators, safety devices to protect the formation of air-gas explosive mixtures, as well as the results of the actual operation &c.&c. are elucidated in the paper pretty in details.
