Abstract
The coal resources in Karafuto are estimated about 2, 000 million tons, so that the future of the coal industry has an important effect on the colonial progress of Karafuto.
Recently the coal industry in Karafuto has remarkably extended attaining the annual coal production 2.1-2.2 million tons, but still there is a room for furtherd evelopment comparing with the present states of the other coal fields districts of Japan.
For the invitation of the prosperity of the coal industry in Karafuto, it is necessary to rationalize the mining operations by the adequate co-operation of miners and change the coal into liquid fuel by the Hydrogeneration, Low Temperature Carbonization, Synthetic Method or their combination utilizing the good properties for liquefaction of the coal.
