The crystallization stripping of Ni and Co-loaded D2EHPA was studied with the mixed solution of H2SO4 and (NH4) 2SO4, in order to develop a new method of stripping. Physical properties were investigated on the crystallized products and the products roasted in air.
The stripping and crystallization of Ni and Co were highly dependent on the concentration of H2SO4 and (NH4) 2SO4 in the stripping solution, and high crystallization of both metals were obtained under the conditions of H2SO4 of 0.5mol/l and (NH4) 2SO4 more than 2.0mol/l. The crystallized products of Ni and Co were found to be (NH4) 2Ni (SO4) 26H2O and (NH4) 2Co (SO4) 26H2O, respectively. It was considered that the crystallization stripping of metals was composed of the back extraction of metal ions from the organic phase and the fromation of the slightly soluble precipitates with the stripping reagents in the aqueous phase.
The crystallized products of Ni and Co were possible to be converted the fine metal oxide powders with the mean particle diameters of 2.2-4.5μm for Ni at burning temperatures of 750-950°C and 6.5μm for Co at 900°C.
