From the experiences in the investigation on the caving of mined stopes of Kamioka and Yanahara Mine by barodynamic experiments, the following conclusions have been obtained. We can foresee qualitatively where and in what way the caving would occur if it happened, by barodynamic experiments, but it is impossible to predict exactly whether or not the caving will take place. We can determine, however, from these experiments the theoretical strength of rock around the mined stope under which the caving would begin to occur, assuming that the rock were of uniform structure and strength. Such a strength is far lower than the strength obtained from tests of the rock, the ratio of both strengths being about 1: 10 for Kamioka and Yanahara Mine. These data may be serviceable as the material to predict the possible occurrence of the caving of mined stopes.
