An extension of the previous study on the correlation analysis of the practical operation data of the shaft furnace for Ni smelting was carried out.
The respective and dual influences of coke weight per day (C) and ore weight per day (O) on Rr, that is (Fe weight in matte)/(FeO weight in slag), were investigated and the results obtained were as follows:
(1) Rr=5.3 (C/O-0.20).
(2) Rr=-0.001 (0-1110) at C/O=const.
(3) Rr had some correlations with C and O of the day before that day as well as those of the day on which Rr was measured.
Thus C/O played a role in Ni smelting operation to determine Rr, which was directly concerned with the yield of Ni.
The most desirable value of C/O with the shaft furnace for the maximum profit were determined with the following formulae obtained from the above relations:
C/O=1/100√P1·Ni0%/P3+0.19
C/O=√1/100·P2/P2·Ni0%+0.002+0.20where P1: Price of Ni in matte per ton
P2: Price of Ni in ore per one per cent, per ton
P3: Price of coke per ton
Nio%: Ni per cent in ore
