This paper describes the “Kowa” process at Tobata plant on the overall utillization of pyrite concentrate from “black ore” the complex Cu-Pb-Zn.-Fe sulphide ore.
The pyrite concentrate is roasted in the Fluo-Solids roaster and the cinder is treated by means of chloridizing volatilization process with a rotary kiln to recover copper andother valuable metels and at the same time to produce high quality hematite pellets.
14, 000 tons of pyrite concentrate are treated a month and 20, 000 tons of sulphuric acid, 18, 000 tons of high quality hematite pellets, 12, 000 tons of steam and 100 tons of cement copper are produced
